about staying in temple

Important rules about Fumonken
Fumonken, as a zen temple is not just a lodging convenience.
One is expected to come here with the idea of regazing at one’s every day life in an other perspective, as in a retreat.
The first step of zen is losing “oneself” and “personal circumstances”. This is why there are a lot of very formal rules in zen temples. Please think that respecting those rules are the way to lose one’s self.

State of mind of the one who stays at a temple
Being lodged in a temple
Spend this time without forgetting the respect and gratitude owed to the Buddha and the temple itself.
Observe one’s word
Without letting things such as “oneself” or “personal circumstances” interfere, repect the rules of the temples.
Harmony prevails on anything else
Spend this time with understanding and cautiousness towards the others, the global harmony being the most important thing.
